Gaslight Anthem Musical History

The Gaslight Anthem is an American rock band from New Brunswick, New Jersey. Formed in 2006, the band quickly gained recognition for their unique blend of punk rock, folk and Americana influences.

The band’s musical journey began with their debut album, “Sink or Swim,” released in 2007. This album showcased their raw energy and poetic storytelling, with tracks like “The ’59 Sound” and “Great Expectations” becoming instantly into fan favorites. “The ’59 Sound” received critical acclaim and has since become a classic anthem for the band.

In 2008, The Gaslight Anthem released their second album, “The ’59 Sound,” which further solidified their place in the alternative rock scene. This album showed their growth as songwriters and featured introspective songs like “Old White Lincoln” and “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues.”

Their third studio album, “American Slang,” was released in 2010. In 2012, The Gaslight Anthem released their highly anticipated fourth album, “Handwriting.” This album marked a slight departure from their previous sound, incorporating more conventional rock elements. The album’s lead single, “45”, became a radio hit and cemented their status as a rising force in the rock music scene.

The band continued to evolve with their fifth album, “Get Hurt”, released in 2014. This album showed a more introspective and experimental side of the band, exploring themes of heartbreak and self-reflection. Tracks like “Rollin’ and Tumblin'” and “Stay Vicious” demonstrated their ability to push musical boundaries while staying true to their roots.
