Sleater Kinney
Sleater-Kinney is a rock band from Olympia, Washington, United States. They started in 1994 and have been active in two different periods: from 1994 to 2006, and then from 2014 to the present. The current members of the band are Corin Tucker (who sings and plays guitar) and Carrie Brownstein (who plays guitar and sings). However, Janet Weiss, who used to sing and play drums, left the band in 2019.
Sleater-Kinney’s music is often described as indie rock, punk rock, riot grrrl and alternative rock. They were originally part of the riot grrrl movement, known for its feminist and political themes.
The band has released several albums over the years, including their self-titled debut album in 1995, “Call the Doctor” in 1996, “Dig Me Out” in 1997, “The Hot Rock” in 1999, “All Hands on the Bad One” in 2000, “One Beat” in 2002 and “The Woods” in 2005. After taking a break in 2006, they reunited in 2014 and released “No Cities to Love” in 2015, followed by “Live in Paris” in 2017. Their album “The Center Won’t Hold”, produced by St. Vincent, came out in August 2019. In June 2021, they released their tenth studio album, “Path of Wellness”, which they produced themselves.
Critics such as Greil Marcus and Robert Christgau have praised Sleater-Kinney as one of the essential rock groups of the early 2000s. Greil Marcus even called them America’s best rock band in 2001. Tom Breihan of Stereogum referred to them as the best rock band of the last two decades in 2015. Sleater-Kinney is not only known for her music but also for her strong feminism. and liberal political beliefs.
