General Hospital
General Hospital, also called GH, is a very old American television show that began on April 1, 1963 on ABC. It is the longest-running American soap opera still broadcast on television. Frank and Doris Hursley did it, and at first it was in a made-up city. It later became Port Charles, New York in the 1970s. GH has been a regular part of people’s lives, showcasing interesting characters and stories.
He became very popular in the late 70s and 80s when he talked about the Quartermaine and Spencer families. A big moment was Luke and Laura’s wedding in 1981, watched by 30 million people, making it the most-watched hour in American soap opera history. GH changed with the times, moving to HD in 2009, and even after other shows were cancelled, it is the last soap opera left on ABC since 2012. Celebrating its 50th birthday in 2013 and reaching its 15,000th episode in 2022, General Hospital is like a television tradition, leaving a big mark on the daytime drama.
