The young and the restless

“The Young and the Restless,” often called Y&R, is an American soap opera that premiered on March 26, 1973, and is still airing. Created by William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell for CBS, the show was initially 30 minutes long and aired five times a week, but was expanded to one-hour episodes on February 4, 1980.

Set in the fictional city of Genoa, the soap opera originally focused on the wealthy Brooks family and the working-class Foster family. Over the years, new core families such as the Abbotts and the Williamses were introduced, along with others such as the Newman family and the Baldwin-Fishers.

One of the show’s most enduring storylines has been the four-decade feud between characters Jill Abbott and Katherine Chancellor. “The Young and the Restless” has won 11 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series and is the highest-rated daytime drama on American television, holding this position for 34 years. On May 1, 2022, the show reached the 12,500th episode milestone.

Notable celebrities such as Katy Perry, Wayne Gretzky and Eva Longoria have appeared on the show and it has served as a starting point for actors such as David Hasselhoff and Paul Walker. CBS renewed the series through the 2023-2024 season.
