Blue Beetle” is a superhero film released in 2023. It is based on a DC Comics character named Jaime Reyes, also known as Blue Beetle. The film was made by DC Studios and The Safran Company, and was distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which includes other superhero films. The film was directed by Ángel Manuel Soto and written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. Xolo Maridueña played the main character, Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle. Other actors in the film are Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon and George López.
They began planning this film starring Jaime Reyes in November 2018 and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer was chosen to write the story. Ángel Manuel Soto was tapped to direct the film in February 2021, originally for HBO Max. Xolo Maridueña got the role in August and they decided to release the film in theaters in December. They finished casting the rest of the cast in early 2022. Filming took place from late May to mid-July at different locations such as Wilder Studios in Decatur, Georgia, El Paso, Texas, and Puerto Rico.
Will there be a Blue Beetle 2?
The second Blue Beetle movie, known as Blue Beetle 2, has not yet been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. However, there are interesting plans afoot for Xolo Maridueña’s role as DC’s new hero.
The director of the first Blue Beetle film, Ángel Manuel Soto, shared that he envisions the first film as just the beginning of a trilogy. He said that he always wanted to make at least two more films, seeing the first as the initial part of a larger story. Imagine it as the first act of a larger adventure.

Blue Beetle 2 Release Date
I don’t know when Blue Beetle 2 will come out because the release date has not been officially announced. When James Gunn and Peter Safran shared their plans in January 2023, they didn’t mention a sequel. Right now, it is difficult to work on the sequel due to the ongoing strikes. So, it may be a while before we get any updates on the sequel.
Blue Beetle Plot
In Antarctica, a company finds an alien artifact called the Scarab. Back in Palmera City, Jaime Reyes learns that his family could lose their home. He gets a job at Victoria’s mansion but is fired for breaking up an argument. Jenny, Victoria’s niece, gives her the Scarab hidden in a hamburger box. When she touches it, the beetle fuses with it, forming armor.
Jaime discovers that the Scarab, called Khaji-Da, is a sentient weapon. With Jenny and the help of her uncle, they fight against Victoria’s forces. Jaime’s family is in danger and he accepts his role as Blue Beetle. He defeats the main threat but saves an enemy, Carapax, who rebels against Victoria. The island is destroyed and Jenny becomes CEO of Kord Industries and promises to help Jaime’s family rebuild. In a mid-credits scene, a recording hints that Ted is alive.
