The plot of the color purple
In 1909 Georgia, teenage Celie faces hardships after becoming pregnant by her father. Celie lives with her sister Nettie and her father Alfonso and suffers from her when Alfonso takes her babies away from her. He forces her to marry an abusive farmer, Mr. Nettie leaves after Alfonso’s advances and promises to write to Celie. In 1917, Celie remains with Mister, while her son Harpo marries Sofia. Harpo’s attempt to build a house turns into a gambling den. Jazz singer Shug Avery arrives, causing conflict. Celie befriends Sofia, who abandons Harpo when he tries to control her.
Sofia’s refusal to be the mayor’s wife’s maid leads to her arrest and she later works for the mayor’s wife. On Easter 1943, Celie confronts Mister and leaves with Shug and Mary Agnes to Memphis. Sofia recovers her true self. In 1945, after Alfonso’s death, Celie discovers that he was not her father and that she owns a store. Celie opens a pants store with Shug, Sofia and Mary Agnes. The man, now drunk, promises to do the right thing. In 1947, Celie reunites with Nettie and her children and expresses gratitude for her trip.
