What happened to Adam in Saw 1?

Saw is an American horror film directed by James Wan in his first major directorial role. Saw premiered at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival on January 19 before being released in North America on October 29, 2004 by Lionsgate. The film, starring Whannell, Elwes, Danny Glover, Monica Potter, Michael Emerson and Ken Leung, received mixed reviews.
