The musical development of the Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones have evolved their music by combining various styles such as blues, psychedelia, R&B and more. Beginning with rock ‘n’ roll and blues covers, they pioneered a gritty, swinging groove. Influenced by artists such as Jimmy Reed and Muddy Waters, they developed a unique sound. Early songs, such as “Tell Me” and “As Tears Go By”, showed broad musical interest. Brian Jones introduced non-traditional instruments.

“The Last Time” marked a change, featuring a distinctive guitar riff. The band developed the “ancient art of weaving”, emphasizing guitar interaction. The open tunings, used by Richards, became a signature. Conflicts between Jagger and Richards, particularly during Richards’ heroin addiction, affected their dynamic.

The band’s fluid formation in the studio led to collaborations. Jagger’s evolving role as a leader and Richards’ distinctive guitar techniques contributed to his lasting legacy, transforming music in the modern industry.
