The Long Shadow is a British television show that tells a true crime story. It consists of seven episodes and is about the search for a serial killer called Peter Sutcliffe, who people call The Yorkshire Ripper. This series began airing on ITV1 on 25 September 2023.

The Long Shadow Episode 2 Review
The second episode of The Long Shadow continues to focus on the human side of the story, particularly Peter Sutcliffe’s victims. It sheds light on the lives of these women who were often dismissed by society as simple prostitutes. In this episode, we see the aftermath of Emily Jackson’s murder. Her husband, Sydney Jackson, was unable to identify her body, leading police to suspect the crime. They used aggressive and inappropriate tactics during interrogation.
The episode also highlights a harrowing incident when a woman named Marcella Claxton called the police after being attacked with a hammer in a park, which matched the killer’s pattern. However, the police disparaged her and even made inappropriate racial slurs. Marcella tragically lost her baby to the attack.
While the show does a great job of humanizing the victims, the procedural aspect doesn’t offer much new information. DCS Hoban takes on a different role, acknowledging the slow progress in the case.
