Peter Frampton early life
Peter Kenneth Frampton was born to Owen Frampton and Peggy Frampton on April 22, 1950 in Beckenham, Kent, England. Growing up, he attended Bromley Technical High School, where his father was a teacher and head of the Art department.
Frampton’s interest in music began at an early age when he discovered his grandmother’s banjolele in the attic at seven. He taught himself to play and later learned to play guitar and piano. His exposure to rock bands such as Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran and the Beatles, along with the influences of Django Reinhardt, fueled his passion for music.
By the age of 12, Frampton was already playing in bands, including the Little Ravens. A significant connection was formed during his school days when he and David Bowie, who was three years older, played together during lunch breaks, joining in on Buddy Holly songs.
At age 14, Frampton joined a band called Trubeats and later The Preachers, which evolved into Moon’s Train, produced and directed by Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones. His initial success raised concerns from his parents, but after a meeting, he was allowed to continue with his musical journey.
Career
Frampton’s musical journey took a pivotal turn when, at age 18, he joined Steve Marriott of the Small Faces to form the rock band Humble Pie in 1969. During his time with Humble Pie, Frampton also participated in recording sessions with artists such as George Harrison, Jerry Lee Lewis and John Entwistle. In 1971, after several albums with Humble Pie, Frampton ventured into a solo career and released “Wind of Change.”
His defining moment came with the 1976 release of “Frampton Comes Alive!” The live album not only became a huge hit, but also showcased her hit singles such as “Baby, I Love Your Way” and “Show Me the Way.” The success of the album made him a rock icon of the 70s.
Despite facing challenges in the late ’70s and ’80s, including a near-fatal car accident and declining popularity, Frampton continued to record and tour. He experienced a brief resurgence in the mid-80s and collaborated with David Bowie. Over the years, Frampton’s passion for music remained strong and he continued to release albums and tour.
