The Argyll brothers confront Leo about his crime, leading to his mysterious disappearance. The ending weaves a story of deception, family secrets and the search for justice. The audience witnesses the unraveling of intricate relationships, making Leo’s exposure as the killer a captivating but disturbing conclusion to “Ordeal by Innocence.” The plot, full of suspense and unexpected twists, keeps viewers’ attention until the final moments, providing a satisfactory resolution to the enigmatic events that unfolded in the series.

Innocence Proof Plot

The story begins with wealthy heiress Rachel Argyll found murdered in her large house. Her adopted son, Jack, is arrested, but before his trial, he dies in prison. Eighteen months later, a man named Arthur Calgary appears and provides Jack with an alibi. Calgary claims that he was in the Arctic and that he did not know about the murder until recently. While trying to clear Jack’s name, he faces hostility from Rachel’s family.

Flashbacks reveal that Rachel was a harsh mother and gave her children reasons to resent her. Calgary, faced with danger, discovers the truth about the night of the murder. Rachel’s husband Leo, who is having an affair, kills her with an Egyptian statuette. Leo, along with police detective Bellamy Gould, frames Jack to hide family secrets. When the brothers discover the truth, Leo disappears.

In the end, Leo is imprisoned in the family’s bomb shelter and Calgary is sent back to a mental hospital. The Argyll brothers visit Calgary and Kirsten, the housekeeper, confronts Leo. Differences from the novel include changes in location, character backgrounds, and plot resolution.
