Delivery Man follows the story of David Wozniak, a delivery man who works for his family’s butcher shop, who finds himself in a series of unexpected, life-changing situations. In addition to this, his girlfriend Emma, a New York police officer, reveals that she is pregnant with her child.
One day, David’s life becomes even more complicated when a lawyer representing a sperm bank informs him that he fathered a staggering 533 children through 693 sperm donations he made during his student years. Of these children, 142 have joined a class action lawsuit to discover the true identity of his biological father, known as Starbuck.
With the help of his friend and lawyer, Brett, David embarks on a journey to keep his identity a secret. He is provided with profiles of the children involved in the lawsuit and he decides to look them up. Along the way, he performs acts of kindness, like helping a struggling actor by covering for him at work and saving his own daughter’s life when she overdoses on drugs.
Despite regretting remaining anonymous, David decides to keep his identity hidden in order to secure a $200,000 settlement from the sperm bank in a countersuit. However, he eventually decides to reveal himself as Starbucks, realizing the importance of his connection with the children.
This decision comes at a critical moment when Emma goes into premature labor. At the hospital, her baby is born and David proposes to Emma, leading to a heartwarming gathering of many of his children who come to meet him. In the end, David maintains contact with several of his new descendants, illustrating the theme of family, connection, and the unexpected turns life can take.
