The house of 1000 corpses Plot
On October 30, 1977, bumbling criminals Killer Karl and Richard Wick embark on a botched gas station robbery with a gruesome display. The establishment’s owner, Captain Spaulding, and his assistant, Ravelli, thwart their efforts, resulting in the deaths of the would-be thieves. That night, a foursome consisting of Jerry Goldsmith, Bill Hudley, Mary Knowles and Denise Willis go on a road trip to document quirky roadside attractions for a book.
Their encounter with Spaulding, who operates “The Museum of Monsters and Madmen”, introduces them to the local myth of Dr. Satan. Trying to locate the tree where Dr. Satan was supposedly hanged, they come across a happy-go-lucky hitchhiker named Baby, who claims that she lives near her. A shadowy figure suddenly appears and shoots out her tire, prompting Baby to seek help from her family’s home while the others fall behind her.
The baby’s half-brother, Rufus, soon comes to their aid, transporting them to the family residence. There, they are introduced to Baby’s relatives: Baby’s adoptive brother Otis Driftwood, her colossal deformed half-brother Tiny, the enigmatic Mother Firefly, and elderly grandfather Hugo.
Over a potluck, Mother Firefly recounts the family’s traumatic history, including an attempt by her ex-husband Earl to cremate Tiny and their home following a mental breakdown. After dinner, the family puts on a Halloween performance, but tensions rise when Baby’s advances on Bill anger Mary. Rufus informs them that his vehicle is fixed, prompting him to leave.
As the group leaves, Otis and Tiny, disguised as scarecrows, ambush them in the driveway and take them captive. The days that follow see Otis murdering Bill and mutilating his remains, Denise enduring torment tied to a bed dressed as a doll, and Jerry enduring a gruesome fate for being unable to identify Baby’s favorite actor.
Concerned for Denise’s well-being, her father Don enlists the help of the police, and officers George Wydell and Steve Naish encounter a gruesome scene at the Firefly residence. Mother Firefly takes out Wydell, while Otis dispatches Don and Steve when they discover more victims in the barn.
The three surviving teens suffer further torment, and Mary meets a gruesome end at the hands of Baby. Otis cremates the bodies, and Jerry and Denise are confined inside a coffin and lowered into an abandoned well.
Within the depths, the pair come across grotesque experiments associated with Dr. Satan. Jerry meets a horrific demise, and Denise navigates through a nightmarish underground complex. She is confronted by Dr. Satan and his patients, as well as the colossal Earl, Mother Firefly’s estranged spouse. Earl meets him missing and Denise escapes the collapsing tunnels.
Rescued by Captain Spaulding, Denise loses consciousness. Waking up, she finds herself held captive and surrounded by Dr. Satan, Earl, and the nightmare scenario. The film concludes with a terrified scream from Denise and the words “The end?” that appears before the credits roll.
