Early life of Gaz Coombes
Gaz Coombes, born Gareth Michael Coombes on March 8, 1976 in Oxford, England, showed an early passion for music. His parents, Eileen and John Coombes, shaped his upbringing. His father, a food scientist and jazz piano enthusiast, and his mother, an English teacher, influenced his early exposure to his creativity. Although he was born in England, Gaz lived in San Francisco from ages 5 to 9 before returning to Oxford in 1985.
At Wheatley Park School, he faced ridicule for his interests, but found support from Danny Goffey, brother of his bandmate in The Jennifers. Gaz moved from classical piano to guitar and, at age 14, became the lead singer of The Jennifers, marking the beginning of his remarkable journey on the music scene.
