Elf in Concert 2023 Overview
“Elf” is a musical adaptation of the film of the same name, with music composed by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin. The screenplay for the stage adaptation was written by Bob Martin and Thomas Meehan, based on the 2003 film. This musical had successful runs on Broadway during the 2010-11 and 2012-13 Christmas seasons, as well as in London’s West End. in the 2015-16 season. In addition, he has toured extensively, often coinciding with the Christmas season.
The story revolves around Buddy Hobbs, a young orphan who accidentally ends up in Santa’s sack of gifts and is magically transported to the North Pole. Upon discovering the baby, Santa and his team of elves decide to raise him as one of their own. As the years pass, Buddy discovers that he is actually human and, encouraged by Santa, he embarks on a journey to New York City in search of his father, Walter Hobbs.
However, Buddy is faced with the harsh reality that Walter is on Santa’s naughty list and his son, Michael, doesn’t even believe in Santa Claus. Undeterred, Buddy is determined to reconnect with his birth family and help bustling New York City rediscover the true essence of Christmas.
